VELKOMMEN
Restaurant Mellem Jyder er indrettet i en af de ældste ejendomme i Ebeltoft og kan skrive sin historie helt tilbage til 1610.
Selv om bygningen i dag ligger midt i byen er det oprindelig en landbrugsejendom men har siden huset så forskellige hverv som skole, toldbod og postkontor.
Sin fornemste periode havde bygningen i første halvdel af det 19. århundrede hvor den tjente som embedsbolig for distriktskirurg Neve, om hvem Ebeltoft har mange beretninger.
Efter Neve overtog skiftende håndværkerfamilier huset og en overgang var det også krostue i et af rummene. Op mod 1950 var bygningen stærkt forfalden og en sammenstyrtning nær, da redaktør Sven Hansen købte den i 1959. Efter en større restaurering indrettede han ”traktørstedet Mellem Jyder”, opkaldt efter hans dengang mangeårige fortællingsserie i Jyllands-Posten.
Hans bærende ide var, at den gamle bygning gennem sin indretning, sine møbler og billeder og mange antikviteter stilfærdigt og hyggeligt skulle fortælle om svundne tider og livsvilkår.
I 1972 overtog familien Lyster Poulsen forretningen og indrettede en egentlig restaurant, og op gennem tiden har tusindvis af gæster fra hele Verden nydt den særprægede
og hyggelige atmosfære.
